Under normal conditions, the oil passes through the piston valves providing the necessary control, but under demanding conditions, a 'cavitation' effect can occur where small gas bubbles mix with the oil. The TrackRyder shock absorbers from Pedders, having a greater thickness and therefore a larger piston diameter, offer better control of oil flow through their valves under normal conditions.
