Over time it has evolved into a brand with a wide range of 4x4 models such as the: Land Rover Defender, Land Rover Discovery, Land Rover Freelander and the Land Rover Range Rover.

In 1967, Rover Company became a part of the Leyland Motor Corporation, and in 1968, Leyland Motor Corporation merged with British Motor Holdings to form British Leyland. In the 1980s, British Leyland split and in 1988 the Rover Group - including Land Rover - was acquired by British Aerospace. In 1994 Rover Group was acquired by Germany's BMW. In 2000, the Rover Group split again and BMW sold Land Rover to Ford Motor Company. Then in June 2008, Ford sold Land Rover and Jaguar to India's Tata Motors Group.
